A Landmark Victory for Laborers
In the world of labor unions, few victories are as significant as the one achieved during Virginia’s Route 495 Hot Lanes Project. Dennis Martire played a pivotal role in ensuring that workers on this large-scale infrastructure project had the option to unionize. The workers overwhelmingly voted in favor, joining LiUNA Local 11 in one of the most celebrated labor victories in the state’s recent history.
Decades of Union Leadership
Martire’s leadership journey began in 1990 and has been marked by steady progression. From International Representative to Director of LiUNA’s Construction Department, and eventually Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, Martire has dedicated over 30 years to advancing workers’ rights.
Advocating for Fair Pay in Maryland
Virginia wasn’t the only state to feel Martire’s impact. In Maryland, he collaborated with Montgomery County leaders to pass prevailing wage legislation. These laws guarantee fair wages for workers while delivering greater returns on public projects—completed faster, more efficiently, and without added costs.
Serving Beyond the Union
Martire’s advocacy extends to multiple boards, such as the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) and the Blue-Ribbon Commission on Maryland Transportation Funding. These roles reflect his broader commitment to transportation, infrastructure, and worker well-being.
