Dennis Martire’s career in labor advocacy began with a government degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1986. Since joining the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) in 1990, he has risen to become vice president and regional manager of the Mid-Atlantic region, a role he has held since 2002.
Rising Through LIUNA’s Ranks
Martire’s journey with LIUNA started as an international representative, followed by roles in the construction department and as assistant regional manager. His election as vice president in 2002 reflects his peers’ trust in his ability to lead and advocate for laborers.
A Historic Union Victory
One of Martire’s most significant achievements was leading the formation of LIUNA Local 11 during the Route 495 Hot Lanes Project in Virginia. By empowering workers to unionize, he secured a historic victory, with over 200 laborers joining the new chapter.
